SHALLOW TRENCH ECO MATERIAL (STeM)

Newly developed backfill material called Shallow Trench Eco Materials (STēM) utilizes Coal Bottom Ash (CBA) and slurry Coal Fly Ash (CFA) as an alternative backfill materials to conventional sand for filling shallow trenches. This innovation aims to support TNB's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiative by effectively managing waste from TNB's business operations.

Selecting the most suitable backfill material is crucial for creating a strong and supportive environment around the foundation. Ideally, the backfill material should be similar to the native soil surrounding the foundation. This ensures compatibility and minimizes the risk of differential settlement (uneven sinking) between the foundation and surrounding soil.
